About

Second Wind is a Randolph, VT-based acoustic band performing an eclectic mix of contemporary and classic folk and blues tunes with a growing repertoire of original songs. A few years after its founding over three decades ago, Second Wind’s original members Jim Sardonis (vocals and guitar), Jim Green (guitar, mandolin, dobro and vocals), and Eric Sakai (bass) went on to form a rock band by that name, later recruiting percussionist Ralph Molinario (cajón and harp). In 2016, Second Wind returned to its acoustic roots.

The band is partial to the work of singer-songwriters like John Hiatt, Guy Clark and James Taylor but has also adapted songs by the Band, the Eagles, Los Lobos, and others from its years playing rock gigs. Strong vocals, diverse instrumentation, and a solid beat may inspire dancing or singing along, which are always welcome at Second Wind performances.

"A crowd favorite at The Den, Second Wind with their bluesy folk and original songs never disappoints. The thirty years of talent playing together shows through their harmonies and stage presence. The upbeat rock tunes always get our patrons up out of their seats and singing along. A fun time and a full crowd happens every time we have Second Wind play at our venue. We can’t wait to have them back!"

Johanna Thibault, The Den, Cabot, VT

Performances

So long for now...

Due to some health issues, Second Wind is taking a break from performing. Thanks to everyone who has come out to see the band over the past 35 years--it means a lot to us. We still plan to record our original music, and when we do, you'll find it here on our website, so stop in now and then or join our mailing list. Take care!

"...a reminder of the beauty in the world and the inestimable value of good music. This is music that soothes the brain and fills the heart and makes it easier to face another day. It is a balm for the soul." --Deb Maclean

"The Road Back to You," with music composed by Jim Green and lyrics by Eric Sakai, features a guest appearance by nationally known songwriter/performer Bobby Gosh on piano. This and two other new songs were recorded and mixed in October 2022 at The Underground Studio in Randolph, Vermont, by owner/engineer Vincent Freeman.

"The Hammer" was written by Eric Sakai and performed by Second Wind as a rock band for about 25 years, before the band returned to its "acoustic roots" in 2016. The song was inspired by a Japanese proverb that says, "When a nail sticks up, the hammer comes." Check out the music video at https://youtu.be/wRZyMkgLu8E.

The third of the three original songs recorded in fall 2022 at The Underground Studio in Randolph, “Pick on My Guitar” is Eric's tribute to all the musicians who put up with crappy, dead-end day jobs to support their habit.

“Second Wind enchanted the audience at the old West Brookfield Meetinghouse recently with their renditions of popular folk and blues tunes by musicians such as James Taylor and John Prine as well as original songs. Their energy, enthusiasm, and love for the music was contagious, warming a chilly fall day.”

— Susan Shea, West Brookfield Village Trust
